Restore weathered and unstable chimney stacks

Chimneys face rain and frost from every direction, so failing mortar or cracked flaunching can quickly expose more of the stack. We complete chimney stack repairs in Newark, including repointing, replacing damaged bricks and renewing the mortar around pots. Loose or broken chimney pots also need attention before they become a hazard. Where local repairs won't restore strength and weather resistance, we can partially or completely rebuild the external stack. For a redundant or severely deteriorated chimney, removal below roof level may be practical, followed by making good the surrounding roof covering.

Lead details that move water around masonry

Many apparent chimney leaks start where the stack meets the roof rather than through the bricks themselves. We inspect step flashing and soakers along the sides, the front apron below the stack and the back gutter that channels water from behind it. A chimney tray may also be needed within the masonry to stop moisture tracking down internally. Beyond stacks, we repair leadwork at walls, dormers and extensions where roof coverings meet upright surfaces. We trace the likely path first, so sound masonry isn't rebuilt when a failed junction is the true problem.
